Trooper Lu’s Hosts Childhood Idol Book Signing

Australian motocross legend and long-time Yamaha icon Stephen Gall was welcomed by a steady stream of fans at Trooper Lu’s Garage in Moorebank recently for a special signing of his new autobiography, No Easy Way: The Stephen Gall Story.

The book charts Gall’s remarkable life and it covers so much more than motorcycles. From his early days riding at Menai minibike club through to his championship-winning racing career on two wheels and four, his long association with Yamaha and the rider training work that has helped shape generations of Australian motorcyclists.

Throughout the afternoon, fans arrived to purchase a copy of the book, meet one of Australia’s most respected sporting legends and have their copy of the book personally signed.

As expected, Gally -as he’s known to his friends, which is everyone - took the time to enjoy a long and friendly chat with every person who attended, making the signing a memorable and personal experience.

For Trooper Lu’s owner and dealer principal Justin Chisholm, the event also carried a special personal connection.

“I grew up in Liverpool and started this business in Liverpool, which is in the same area where Stephen learned to ride at Menai,” Chisholm said. “I followed his racing career as a kid. In fact, I did a Year 5 school project on Gally along with one about the growing Liverpool area. I still have both of those project and keep them here at the shop. So here we are, all these years later, having a book signing with him in Liverpool, with me now running my own business. It’s pretty special.”

Gally said he was proud to see the book completed and pleased with the finished result.

“It has come out really well, the quality is amazing,” he said. “This book is very special to me. I’ve been with Yamaha for 52 years now, they’ve stuck by me for so long.”

He also said he gets a lot of enjoyment from doing the book signings.

“It really hits my heart to see so many people I’ve touched over the years,” he said. “I get so many people come up and say they did one of my schools, or they saw me race, and they’ve got a smile on their face, which is really important to me.”

Federal Member for Fowler, Dai Le, also attended the signing and said the event highlighted a unique local connection between Gall, Trooper Lu’s and the area’s riding community.

“I’m not a motorcycle person, but I do know that in our Fowler community we have a huge group of young motorbike riders,” Le said. “For me, the most interesting part is the connection between Justin and Stephen. Justin was a huge fan of Stephen when he was young, and here he is now hosting a book signing for his childhood hero. That is a really special local connection.”

Sean Goldhawk, Marketing Manager Land Mobility at Yamaha Motor Australia, said Gall’s enduring relationship with Yamaha reflected both loyalty and professionalism.

“Stephen has been with us for more than 50 years, and that kind of commitment to one brand is something you just don’t see anymore,” he said. “He is also the consummate professional. He’s not only been involved in teaching people but also inspiring them to become better riders.”

After the signing wrapped up, Gally took part in a podcast with MotoPG Podcasts, hosted by Dave Cooke, with Sean Goldhawk also joining the conversation. The trio discussed Gall’s success on and off the track, his remarkable life in motorcycles and the release of No Easy Way.
